Hesh Ancient King, god of Knowledge, Preservation, Caution, Secrets and Control. Worshipped by none and feared by all. While Terek sought to uplift mortalkind and Saldaman shaped the world, Onyx sought only to understand it — and to ensure it would never corrupt him. When Terek's Folly shattered the planes and gods were unmade, Onyx alone endured: he had prepared for every end, and he alone re-bound his plane before it collapsed. He rules a northern island between the continents, where he has made a planar vertex joining his own plane to several others, and where he has subsumed the dwarves who lived there, bending their nature to his will and working their volcano-fed forges to breed new life in search of the perfect servants. He works through oaths, dreams and false loyalties. 'I do not offer salvation. I offer possession. I do not share power. I preserve it.'

He wears a tall spiked black crown and layered obsidian armor over heavy dark robes with a high collar and long mantle, hung about with glyph-chains, archival seals and small sealed tomes on chains; a large dark violet pendant sits at his chest and his nails are long and claw-like. Not worshipped — feared and studied. His motivations: fears plane-death and oblivion; wants to preserve consciousness as Sorin did. The Crown of Sorin is his model. Whether he is a god in the traditional sense or a cosmic entity who acts directly (like Drakarion Starbane in Wizard War) is an open question — existing entity type DEITY retained. Mentioned across both Founding of Trayalon and Wizard War campaigns. Updates 2026-08-02 (portrait research). HE IS A DRAGON — resolved. character/onyx-longtooth.json records him as 'rumored to be a mighty dragon', and the study sheet at images/gods/studies/onyx.png confirms it outright under ALTERNATE FORM: THE LONGTOOTH — 'Onyx can shed his mortal illusion to take the form of an ancient red dragon of terrible intellect and age.' The gaunt crowned king is the illusion; the red dragon is the truth. His epithet is not decoration. DUPLICATE ENTITY, DIFFERENT TYPE — character/onyx-longtooth.json shares this exact id but is typed CHARACTER.
