A magus bound to a sentient blade. Since the two became one its voice has been constant in his mind — guiding, instructing, warning, correcting, commanding — and it has never been wrong. He outgrew his teachers quickly and set off with the blade as his only guide.

About this record: art and source provenance, discrepanciesDrawn north to Northfringe by recurring dreams of a circular seal — the same summons that reached every member of the party independently. HIS SEARCH: he and the blade left the suspicion and jealousy of the school at Lightwatch behind and went to Bloodring for the ancient primal magic of the Blackblades; then Harveston, seeking the fabled Red Witch, whom they remain convinced is more than rumour but could find no path to; then Parverea, where they met the remaining elders, the high priests and the speakers of the God King and found nothing but 'the lies and echoes of a power lost'. They pressed north past the Faces of the Unfaithful into the wildlands. After months his belief was wavering — and then he heard a second voice. He feared madness until the blade confirmed it heard the voice too. Unlike the blade's, this voice does not crave and does not command: it is calm, quiet, coaxing, and it offers answers and power. It calls them to Northfringe. THE BLADE ACTS ON ITS OWN JUDGEMENT — it wants Torian to meet Liza, sensing power about her, and pushes him toward undertakings of its own choosing. It also recognises Wallace, the guardian of Helmar's Lower Gate, as its servant: Torian can command Wallace as Helmar and relieve him of his duties, but only by ceding control to the blade to do it. THE MANTLE OF HELMAR — Torian is the intended candidate to assume it. The Scepter of Law is identified in the source as Torian's Sword. If he does not take the mantle, Ferrum does.
