PLAYER CHARACTER OF h-172 (recorded 2026-08-03). Sherman's PC in Legends of the North, played as 'Tack' — an elf gunslinger searching for his lost love, who knew only that she had been taken to the western lands against her will. He recovers his memory and identity over the course of that campaign. By h-335 Wizard War he is an NPC ally of a different party, still going by Tac. MERGED 2026-08-01, confirmed by the world author. This entity now carries three former records: `335-tach` (Wizard War ch-30 material), and the bare importer stubs `172-prince-vesion`, `172-prince-vesion-skycaller`, `172-vesion` and `282-vesion`. All are the same person; all five files have been deleted and their references repointed here. He also appears in the h-282 Brave New World material. He goes by **Tac** in company and is addressed that way through most of the Starfall Saga — an alias, not the name. == THE FALL OF THE SKYCALLERS (h-172, from PilotStar/…/0172_Legends of the North/Backstories.md and 12_Sections.md) == Aliana Dawn was an elvish master gunsmith, one of the few remaining elves who remembered the lost arts of building and maintaining the weapons that serve the royal line. She spent years teaching that art to Vesion and they grew close; most of Dawncrest assumed he would make her his queen. Aliana wanted the elves to take a larger role in the world. She went against the rule of the Skycallers and traded with a fledgling colony of dwarves and elves in the eastern mountains, showing the dwarves elvish weapon technology. Word spread. The council of elders convicted her of treason for sharing forbidden knowledge with outsiders — King Skycaller disagreed with the ruling and was overruled by the council, led by the Moonguards, who knew perfectly well that the king's son was her childhood friend and probably in love with her. Moonguard volunteered to bring her back for trial. Vesion insisted on going himself, refused all aid, and left the hall carrying only the ceremonial pistol he wore at court. It was a trap in the shape of a duty: refuse to arrest her and be branded a traitor, and the Moonguard family would have grounds to replace the Skycallers as rulers of Dawncrest. He refused. They did. He found her in the halls of Greyrock. Baron Heftin's forces attacked the stronghold to capture Aliana, and the attack left Vesion without most of his memory. Dawncrest believed them both dead. Vesion remembered only that Aliana had been taken across the ocean to the west, and followed — through the northern lands, working odd jobs to move from place to place. He recovers most of his memories during the events of h-172 ch-12, 'The Envoy', where Freyald forces him to relive the ruling and choose again between his people's will and his own heart, recording it with a startube. ONYX (h-172 ch-20) refers to him as the former prince, notes the Skycallers were displaced by the Moonguard as a result of his actions, sympathises, and offers to speak to the elves on his behalf about Aliana if he will fix 'the problem with the plane'. In the Starfall Saga, roughly 160 years later, Mac raises the name Onyx and Vesion's answer is careful and clipped: someone to steer clear of if you have any choice, a being of enormously complicated motivations and a history most who know it would classify as monstrous. He does not elaborate. Whatever passed between them is unrecorded. In h-172 ch-15 the guardian of Helmar's Vault recognises his royal symbols and asks whether the Skycallers have come to reclaim the guardians they gave to Helmar. == WIZARD WAR (h-335) == The Moonguard are still hunting him and 'his presumed wife Aliana Dawn' (0335-19 Tarton). He appears out of the tree line at the corrupted grove as Moon Guard Captain Tarrin is about to seize the Conduit of Twin Souls and Tank's elvish components. He does not address Tarrin — he addresses the Sentinels: 'Soldiers of Dawncrest. I am addressing you, not your captain. You know who I am. And you know who you swore your oath to.' Two of the four step back and fade away. To Tarrin: 'Captain. You have no standing here. I have a kingdom. You have a usurper... And I will return to my throne.' WHAT HE KNOWS: his family's rule was isolationist but never aggressive, and the Sentinels existed to defend elvish lands rather than project force — what the current council does with the military he helped build is a profound misuse. Confirms a non-interference agreement between the elves and the Tinkersville gnomes; observes it probably did not anticipate Fey. Was genuinely surprised by the gnomish spaceship — the elves may know of it deep in their archives, but the knowledge is likely lost to the current regime. On the Doomguards: he has encountered them, would not recommend it, they are pervasive and considerably stronger than they appear, and they are NOT a single unified force with a single agenda. On the plague: he dealt with a plague situation once long ago involving an anti-paladin and a plague bearer, they found no satisfying answer, a lot of people died, and he does not want to discuss it. Counsels quarantining the tainted coin rather than closing the northern road: 'This is the slower hand. The Cabal is loud. The plague is patient. You should be more afraid of the patient one.' STANDING SUSPICION: Lloyd, Fey and Griva agreed a quiet contingency posture toward him — warm, collaborative, genuinely welcoming, and watchful. Lloyd's argument: 'the most elegant way to get someone inside a group is to give them something they desperately want and make it feel like luck.' Mac was deliberately excluded from the contingency planning as too enthusiastic to be objective. Vesion's name is NOT on the Dawncrest contract recovered from Helvi; Lloyd checked. SAGA CORRECTION: Lloyd records that Vesion 'fell in love with a woman who was not of the Dawncrest elves.' The h-172 source contradicts this — Aliana Dawn was an elf of Dawncrest and its master gunsmith. Lloyd was hearing a complicated life condensed into a travel narrative; prefer the h-172 account. == THE SKYCALLER LINE == Descended from the Starwalker explorers who arrived on this world by ship — the same origin Drakarion names when he tells the party the elves 'were not native to the star'. Waespiro Skycaller (h-282) escaped a stasis pod with his pregnant wife Fengen, reached Dawncrest seeking help for her, and found the Skycallers cast out and the Moonguard ruling; they betrayed and mortally wounded him. Fengen fled south and bore Aval, adopted by Skycaller loyalists, and later Nixala. Nixala is a half-elf descendant of the original Starwalker explorers, raised in the traditions of the modern Skycaller line.
