The Gallund River Empire's appointed diplomat at Fairbreeze, sent out from Trayalon and a cousin of the Cassius family. A scholar by training with only novice skill at arms, he was posted here to assist with research at the Fairbreeze library, and became the author of the GRE's treaty with Vivian Fairbreeze β€” terms he worked out with her beforehand and is openly proud of. He is on good terms with Vivian and the Hench family, and is the man who supplies the empire's answer to every objection raised against it.

Physical DescriptionA slender, fine-boned young man, light on his feet, with long straight blond hair drawn back off the face into a high tail and loose strands falling at the temples. Fair, smooth complexion; a fine straight nose; arched brows over pale eyes; a small mouth held in a faint, pleased half-smile. He dresses like a Trayalon gentleman rather than a soldier: a white full-sleeved shirt gathered and puffed at the upper arms with a ruffled white jabot at the throat, under a dark brown leather doublet-cuirass closed with buckles, and a broad dark sash wound several times at the waist. A single articulated steel pauldron of fluted plates sits on his right shoulder, and he wears steel-and-leather gauntlets with articulated fingers on both hands. A long deep-green cloak hangs back off his shoulders. Below the sash, a long black split over-skirt of layered panels falls to mid-calf over dark hose and low dark shoes. He carries a slim swept-guard rapier, usually held up across the body in a fencer's salute, his free hand extended for balance.

Record Notes

About this record: art and source provenance, discrepancies

CHARACTERISATION, ch-02 raw source (authorial voice): 'GRE apologist. Appointed as the diplomat here in Fairbreeze from Trayalon. Chester is a novice warrior and scholar by trait, cousin of the Cassius family. He was sent here to assist with research done at the Fairbreeze library. He is fairly good friends with Vivian and the Hench family, but has a fair amount of disdain for the common people of the Kesselands and beyond.' The Character Grid line reads 'GRE envoy to Fairbreeze and library keeper'. His class prejudice is kept out of publicDescription as an attitude a player has to discover rather than a stated fact. VOICE β€” two lines of his apologetics are written out in ch-02: 'If they wanted to, the Gallunds could come here at any time and enslave this whole region, that's not what they want to do. Fairbreeze is a long time ally to the Gallund family, and the Gallunds only want these regions to run safely and autonomously.' And on the absence of a garrison: 'The warrior's guild is not involved out here by design…' DM-ONLY (DC 20, ch-09): Chester's other role at Fairbreeze was to catalogue and extract any information from the village library deemed useful to the Cassius school of magic. He announces his work there is complete and that he will return to Trayalon after the ceremony, probably for promotion. Must not reach any player-facing field. THE TREATY (ch-09): he is its primary author and proud of it β€” Vivian keeps autonomous rule of Fairbreeze provided she also pursues interests running counter to GRE safety, including surrendering members of the Cards gang for questioning. Karl Hench has been over it with Vivian and Chester and thinks it reads more like surrender than partnership. Note the ch-09 phrasing is self-contradictory as written ('agrees to pursue any interests that run counter to the safety of the GRE'), and the campaign JSON reproduces the same inversion β€” the sense is plainly that she must NOT pursue them. Flagged, not silently corrected. RECURRENCE: he is listed in the Characters.csv for chapters 06 through 21, so he recurs well beyond the ch-02/03/09 appearances the campaign markdown describes. Those later appearances are unmined. ART READS ANDROGYNOUS: images/ChesterBlanks.jpg depicts a slender, delicately featured blond figure with long hair who could be taken for a woman. Every text source uses he/him and calls him a cousin of the Cassius family, so the record follows the text and reads the art as a fine-boned young man. Raised for the author rather than resolved. ART PROVENANCE: the file sits at the flat root and reads as third-party digital illustration, live in the published bundle at /images/entities/character/chesterblanks.webp. Same caveat as the other flat-root finds. Listed among the Fairbreeze NPCs in ch-02. His brief is not spelled out beyond the diplomatic posting, but his presence marks the GRE working Fairbreeze politically before the war turns.
