Summary
The grand wedding of Admond Gallund and Caitlyn is celebrated with a week of feasting. During the feast, Tray Gallund is assassinated by unknown parties. Madame Flicket frames Caivil Strong for the murder. Caivil is killed in custody. The Council of Trayalon must manage the succession crisis, political fallout, and the allegiance of Caivil's champions Trevor Lightfist and Michael the Hammer.

Leading up to the wedding, Tray calls a council meeting to formally establish government succession lines — setting up Marcus and Craig. Reynald, a cousin of the late Simon Fairbreeze, arrives from Fairbreeze with gifts for each council member from the Hesh gift tradition: Freespirit receives an Oathbow, Duncan a Belt of Physical Perfection +4, Solomon a Dagger +4 ghost touch, and Admond a Belt of Stoneskin. Tray also gives rings to each council member. During the week of celebration, a remarkable array of guests attend: the Traveller performs 'Song of the Wedding Dancers' and the prophetic ballad 'Gilded Kingdom'; the Singer Sisters perform the 'Song of the Fool'; Brandon Swiftwater (now visibly changed, calm, and bearing Sorin's maker's mark) attends and signs a peace treaty in exchange for access to magical sites; Galbrand Landus attends, now disillusioned and building a library of religion and history; Udin Boulderfall and Grak Cinderforce observe a prophecy they believe may be fulfilled by the marriage; Caivil Strong arrives with Trevor Lightfist and Michael the Hammer. During the feast following the wedding ceremony, Tray Gallund is killed by unknown parties. Madame Flicket frames Caivil for the assassination. When Caivil is sent for arrest, he is killed in an alleged struggle in custody.

Caivil's death in custody is staged by Flicket to prevent the truth coming out — Tray orchestrated the Honor Day attacks on Swiftwater and Redshields that killed Caivil's daughters. This revelation, if the party ever learns it in full, recontextualizes Tray as morally compromised. Canon: the assassin is Madame Flicket, who kills Tray during the celebration and frames Caivil. The twist unmasked in the aftermath (following chapter) is that Flicket and Seamus Adair were both secretly Tray Gallund's own agents — his clandestine network turned on him. Seamus and Flicket attempt to get elected to the council post-assassination. Viviana's line ('kingdoms born in blood are often destroyed by it') is prophetic — use it as a recurring motif. Brandon attending visibly changed (Sorin-overwhelmed) is a major story beat — he has made peace because Sorin's priorities are now larger than regional politics.
