Physical DescriptionRunestaves are created by members of the Order of Glass, a magical school based out of the Cathedral of Glass in Tamerea city. A runestaff serves as the sign of graduation for each member of the order, and is used to store and channel magical energy as well as to serve as a focus and link for cooperative casting.
The first runestaff was created by the founder of the order, Raife Stormcaller, as a sign of the order, establishing a traditional rite of passage in which apprentices craft their own runestaves to become full members. The crafting is complex and demanding, requiring extensive knowledge of both magical theory and the practical application of that theory.

The Order of Glass is credited with formalizing conflict resolution into ritual combat: because of the Breaking, the Order rarely has members in open conflict and disputes are settled quickly before they can escalate. The Cathedral of Glass is recorded as a school of magic in the Tamerea City source doc, which corroborates this. NOTE: the founder here is "Raife Stormcaller", similar to but not obviously the same as "Raif Stromwall", the Nexus guardian Terek defeated per the Crystal Spire doc — not conflated.
