Physical DescriptionFirst created by Terek the Redeemer and later passed to the scholars of the Hesh Empire, rune crystals are specifically crafted pieces of glass and rock arranged in very precise patterns. The rocks are carved with intricate layers of writing that will always include the Shaper's Mark of the craftsman who created them. They can be small or large, and are usually affixed to something to preserve their exact position: the orientation does not matter, but the position of each piece relative to every other piece in the set is critical and precise.
Even during the height of the Hesh Empire rune crystals were somewhat a rarity, and in the post-Folly world they are among the most sought-after artifacts in the world. Even those with effects that would be considered mundane by modern magical study have incredible value as objects of research that could potentially unlock the secrets of rune crystal creation again.
