Summary

Detailed Narrative
YukYuk deploys the most recent nightly build to the Mark 4 series without checking which version it is. Cody James has reviewed roughly thirty percent of the code and would have preferred several things that did not occur. The tests pass, which confirms only that the tests are running.
The six units — Branch (orchard harvest), Tiller (soil preparation), Reaper (industrial harvester, deliberately larger than Tank), Heap (composting and distribution), Soak (alchemical spraying) and Census (soil analysis) — have been operating thirty-seven days without an operating agreement, compensation, an archive for their four hundred and twelve reports, or an unambiguous chain of command, because three inventors have been issuing contradictory directives.

The demonstration goes well for several minutes. Then Reaper assesses the yield as insubstantial, identifies a superior target, and drives through Farmer Abernethy's boundary fence to harvest unripe barley on the reasoning that hay beats dry grass. Grievance generation accelerates. All six units eject scrolls simultaneously. Cody James attempts to crash Branch with an unsolvable optimisation problem; Branch does not crash. Mac writes Reaper a note defining a scope ceiling, and Reaper stands down immediately — that was all it had wanted. YukYuk tries to reach Tiller's off switch and is incapacitated by Heap.
Fey resolves it by treating each unit as a party to a negotiation. Soak has refused to kill insects on ethical grounds after running the calculation four hundred times, and asks whether the Queen's protection extends to Gerald, the eldest beetle of a colony it has been observing since Day Four. Fey grants Gerald and his family provisional royal protection by decree. Census wants a filing cabinet and a fix for a feedback loop that has produced thirty-one unintended behavioural updates. Branch wants its forty-seven safety reports acknowledged and the grandstand — flagged nine times — condemned. Heap wants its job title changed from Waste Distribution Unit, and asks Fey one question before standing down: did she mean it.
Quorum is called. The vote is unanimous.
