Onyx and the Volcano

The volcano on the eastern side of the Molten Isle, and the seat of Onyx Longtooth's power. The island itself is layered planes -- a shifting vortex of realms that slowly become more stable as one approaches the volcano at its center. The volcano is an incredible source of energy and power. It was this power that first drew the dwarves to the island, both for the power itself and for the ability to create powerful magic items. The volcano is also a major nexus to various planes; through these Onyx has sent his armies to raid, pillage, and collect new specimens, and has sent rejected creations out into the world to explore and do his bidding.

Hidden DescriptionOnyx has ascended to godhood. He views himself as a creator of beings and has taken credit for many of the peoples that now occupy the two main continents, working tirelessly to combine aspects of various races through breeding and magic. His creations draw from a perverse need to punish those who have attacked him in the past, but also serve a greater purpose: Onyx has been attempting to create a perfect species to serve him and elevate his godhood to the highest level. He is credited with the origin of the first orc and goblin. Onyx took particular pleasure in punishing the dwarves who once coveted his treasure, merging the first dwarves (the lost clan) with daemons to create a new corrupted race to worship him; these first daemon dwarves were key to his ascension. As he gained power he continued to merge dwarves with goblins and orcs to make ever more hideous creations. The Blazing Hood dwarves seek out these creations and destroy them. The Blazing Hood amuse Onyx, and it is in this amusement that he devises particularly nasty monsters to fight them at various nexus points. Onyx influences a major city to the west, and through manipulation of that city a major religion has been created to worship him. He spends much of his time spreading rumors to draw adventurers to his island. His original color is unknown. PLANNED THREAD: an eventual battle between Onyx and Morgana, as Morgana converts his followers into undead beings.
