An enormous waterfall found in the River Kingdom. The falls drop a main river over 200 feet into a caldera permanently obscured by thick mists, shaped in a half circle around the plunge. Efforts to pierce the mists through magical vision or exploration have failed, and very few people who venture into them are ever seen again; those who do return are changed, and their stories of what lies within are as varied as they are wild. The Mists have become a sacred place for the River Kingdom, representing the presence of the gods in the world. While present year round, there are periods where the weather causes the mist to be muted. The waterfall also serves as the avenue of ultimate judgement for the accused of the River Kingdoms. Anyone found guilty of a capital crime may choose a Trial by Mists: the accused must leap from the top of the waters and emerge from the mists at the bottom of the falls unscathed, and if they succeed all charges against them are dismissed. Many powerful tyrants have chosen the Trial by Mists as a last resort, only to vanish and never be heard from again.
