An ancient darkness whose spectral sentinels — a Shadowblade and a Silencewarden — guard the Relic of Shadow. They appeared at a farmstead just beyond Starfall's borders and set a Trial of Will as the price of the relic.

About this record: art and source provenance, discrepanciesThe trial was not a test of courage or wit but of depravity: to claim the shadow, the guardians said, one must first prove they can cast aside conscience, and anyone unwilling would be driven mad by the relic's influence. They pointed at the farm's inhabitants — a woman and her young son. Griva did not debate. The mother and son were not spared. The guardians accepted the party's 'resolve', the relic manifested, and they vanished. This is the darkest event in the campaign record and Lloyd records it plainly: 'They say the path to divinity is paved with sacrifice. I had hoped those sacrifices would be my own comforts, not the lives of the innocent.'
