Trayalon

citycapitalgallund-river-empirehesh-ruinstrayalonport

The capital of the Gallund River Empire, built on the ruins of the ancient Hesh city of Vadesh. Located at a strategic central port where merchant routes converge. The Gallund brothers sieged and captured it in h-109, renaming it Trayalon after Tray Gallund. Previously known as CastleCliff, River City, and before that Vadesh. Features a keep on the cliffs above the city, extended walls running from the keep to the sea, a thriving merchant district, the Jade Lotus Monastery (built over Hesh catacombs), and an obsidian cliff coastline 200 miles long β€” a scar from Terek's Folly. The ancient Hesh city of Vadesh lies buried beneath it.

GovernanceSeat of the River Kingdom's guild-family system. Each great family holds a guild: Casius (Mage Guild), Gallund (Warrior Guild), Santus (Builders Guild), Landus (Religious Tenant), Faerwald (Merchant Guild), Panderian (Thieves Guild), and Adair (Banking Guild), alongside the Loremasters Guild and the Artisans Guild. The kingdom enforces strict rules on magic and its practice. All mages must register and be part of the mages guild, and unauthorized magic results in severe penalty. Magic items likewise must be registered and marked by the mages guild or be subject to confiscation and/or destruction. Within the mage guild, the order tasked with maintaining the magical laws is the Order of the Burning Blade, an order of paladins that aggressively seeks out and punishes anyone within the River Kingdom who violates the restrictions on magic. The basis for the restrictions is the notion that magic is inherently dangerous and could bring about the downfall of the kingdom if left unchecked. The paladins act with as much restraint as the law reasonably allows, but ultimately enforce it without wavering.

Record Notes

About this record: art and source provenance, discrepancies

Formerly CastleCliff (under Gallund siege), formerly River City, formerly Vadesh (Hesh era). Named Trayalon after Tray Gallund in h-109. IMPORT 2026-08-10 from `Places/110 - _ Trayalon, Golden River Empire.md`. CAUTION: that doc describes the River Kingdom as a whole, not the city -- its figures (population 2,300,000, primarily human; 10 rivers and 9 ruling families; a xenophobic kingdom wary of outsiders and non-humans, part of the larger River Empire including semi-independent border territories) belong on the kingdom/faction entity, not here, and have deliberately NOT been written onto this city record. The doc also lists a 'Lost Family' with the note 'Fallout from Finn Gallund'.
