Record Notes
About this record: art and source provenance, discrepanciesDrawn north to Northfringe by recurring dreams of a circular seal β the same summons that reached every member of the party independently. The dismissal arrived on an ordinary Monday, sealed with the red-on-red mark of the council of Trayalon. Not one of his commanders came in person. He read it through in a booth in The Rubblefield and decided that morning to leave everything behind. Within a week it was clear his friends in arms would share a drink and a memory and nothing more β none would leave with him. He could not fault them; a week earlier he had been in their place. He signed on north as caravan guard and swapped job for job β through the northern cities, Blackblade territory, Harveston, the Parverean wastes and into the northern wilds. Then the dreams began: a feeling, an urge, an impulse north. By the time he reached Northfringe he was unsure whether they were blessing or curse, only that whoever sent them had a purpose β and that the purpose might be his big break. In Northfringe, Jameson Black β head of the town guard, and secretly a Dreamer β approaches him to help train the town militia. CONTINGENCY IN THE SOURCE: if Cromwell is killed, Aliana can imprint his brain onto one of the elvish automatons, effectively reincarnating him into an immortal body.
