A half-elf monk and former soldier who serves the Gallund brothers as bodyguard, teacher, and strategist. He came to them by way of several wars, a discharge he struggled to recover from, and a monastery he left after breaking its rules to defend a group of travellers; between those and the Gallunds he spent years as a mercenary and battlefield instructor. Known as the calm centre of the council — the one who sees three moves ahead — he founded the Jade Lotus Monastery in Trayalon, also called Duncan's Academy, a regional institution for martial training and scholarly study built on a balance of body, mind, and purpose, and later a place of healing as well. Teacher, strategist, and warrior: he holds that 'Victory is not the breaking of your enemy. It is the mastery of yourself,' and keeps to a discipline he describes as 'Discipline in motion. Stillness in mind. Compassion in purpose.' His stated aim is to build a legacy of strength through wisdom — to forge heroes, not rulers. He carries a quarterstaff, prayer beads, training wraps, and the Jade Lotus emblem.

Short dark brown hair thinning at the temples and greying, a short grey-flecked beard, deep-set eyes and a lined, serious face. He wears a grey sleeveless quilted vest buttoned down the front, a black scarf wound at the neck and draped over one shoulder, and a dark green sash knotted at the waist with a long tattered panel bearing a lotus mark; below it, layered dark ragged wraps over dark trousers. Cloth-and-leather wraps bind his forearms and hands to the knuckles and his shins to the ankle, and he goes in open sandals. He carries no armour and no blade. 6'0", 180 lbs, and about 38 years old.

Martial arts stats at campaign start: Unarmed +7 (1d6+3), Flurry of Blows +6/+6 (1d6+3), STR 17, DEX 16, CON 17, WIS 15, BAB +4. Key feats: Combat Reflexes, Deflect Arrows, Improved Grapple, Stunning Fist, Throw Anything, Skill Focus (Sense Motive). Author's rulings 2026-08-03: ALIGNMENT is Lawful Neutral, changed from Lawful Good — the study sheet was right. CLASS is Monk/Fighter, as this record and the player's character sheet CSV already had it; the study sheet's bare 'Monk' is an incomplete rendering. His own character sheet describes him more harshly than the art does — 'very unattractive, but otherwise average and unassuming' — and records that he avoids the company of women, believing they dislike his appearance and mock him behind his back. The behavioural half is carried as a personality trait. The recorded age of 38 is his age at the start of the Founding of Trayalon campaign (h-109). None of his carried kit has an item entity.

NAME — 'Duncan SARKRANA' is correct. The study sheet's title card reads 'Duncan SARKARNA', which is a misspelling in the artwork, not an alternate name; it is kept in searchTerms only so the art stays findable. If the sheet is ever regenerated the title should be corrected. schema.ts also uses 'duncan-sarkana' in a doc-comment slug example — cosmetic, but wrong. ART PUBLISHING — Duncan.png was published to web/public/images/campaigns/founding-of-trayalon-gallund-river-empire/Duncan.webp, an orphaned derivative from before the campaign folder was renamed to 0109-…. Campaign-folder images are not in the entity resolution path in any case, and the studies/ and moments/ subfolders are not processed at all, so nothing currently attaches to this character. Fix is a card at images/0109-founding-of-trayalon-gallund-river-empire/cards/109-duncan-sarkrana.png.
