Penwin Zuk reveals that Medina's concealed father is one of the men present but cannot name him. The party defeats Brogmil Runehand's armed Blazing Hood intervention, secures Carrick and Penwin as allies, and brings the unexpectedly capable Jennifer on the Naa expedition.
Detailed Narrative
Before leaving Rosenthorne, the party presses Penwin Zuk about the family secrets surrounding Estera and Medina. Penwin is magically bound from revealing Medina's parentage directly. She can, however, say that Medina's father is in the room and is not Penwin or Baby. The men immediately considered are Trevor, Gaby, and Giles. This establishes one of the campaign's major unresolved family mysteries.
Penwin also shares enough about Estera to make clear that the missing lady was a far more powerful and socially dangerous magic-user than her domestic role suggested, including formidable charm/seduction abilities. The party cannot determine whether Medina's birth had an ulterior magical/political purpose.
Penwin then brings the party into an elite Westbridge social setting where influential figures—including Salmaya's circles—can be observed. Trevor's inherited Baron Brooverton status opens doors that were previously Markus's. Baby uses the gathering for covert intelligence and theft, while the others observe relationships among the regional elite. The party gains context but still no courtroom-quality proof against Nordithis.
The unresolved portal dispute comes to a head at Rosenthorne. Brogmil Runehand arrives with an armed Blazing Hood force intending to take control of the situation and end the danger. The confrontation becomes a battle on the estate. Carrick Cinderforge sides with the party, and Penwin ultimately intervenes with overwhelming magical force. Brogmil's group is defeated. By the campaign finale Brogmil is explicitly described as dead, although the exact killing blow is muddled by later table recollection.
The household then helps suppress/contain the immediate political aftermath, with a cover story that the Blazing Hood team disappeared in a dangerous portal incident.
The group is now committed. Carrick reports that the portal is ready. Jennifer, the new cook, becomes a security concern precisely because she is new—so the party decides she is coming with them rather than being left behind with knowledge of the incident. She reveals unexpected competence, gear, lockpicking ability, and an upbringing supposedly connected to the household.
