Summary
Trevor succeeds as Baron Brooverton while a private letter reveals that his missing mother Louisa left for a life of espionage. At Drankov, the party discovers that Nardic forces have abducted an entire settlement through the planar bridge.
Detailed Narrative
With Markus dead, the family searches Rosenthorne more systematically for Project Sunrise records and private correspondence. Trevor's legal position is formalized: he succeeds to the hereditary title and becomes the fourth Baron Brooverton, giving him both authority and responsibility for Rosenthorne and its dependent communities.
The search also reopens the mystery of Lady Louisa, Trevor and Gaby's long-missing mother. A private letter establishes that Louisa did not simply vanish by accident: she left deliberately and was engaged in espionage. The exact organization name is noisy in the early transcript, but the finale later identifies her masters as the GRE. This discovery changes the family's understanding of its past and raises the possibility that some of Markus's political troubles are entangled with hidden intelligence networks.
At the same time, Brogmil Runehand and Carrick Cinderforge represent two different Blazing Hood responses to the crisis. Brogmil is a hard-liner who wants the planar threat eliminated; Carrick is more technically minded and willing to understand the bridge before destroying it. The party's rescue priority—finding Estera and Medina—puts it in direct conflict with anyone who would simply obliterate Project Sunrise immediately.
The party investigates Estera's rooms and belongings, looking for evidence that she engineered the disappearance or had hidden motives. They conclude that Estera and Medina most likely survived the initial event and remain on the other side, although Estera's background is clearly more complicated than the family had been told.
Attention then turns to Drankov, one of the settlements under Rosenthorne's authority. The town is eerily abandoned. Physical evidence shows that large numbers of residents were dragged or marched toward a planar access point. The party encounters hostile Nardic-linked forces and extraplanar creatures; a leader escapes through the portal while the party defeats/captures others.
The discovery transforms local disappearances into a mass-abduction crisis. Drankov's population has not merely fled: the Nardic side is actively exploiting the bridge network to remove people from Rosenthorne's world.
