Detailed NarrativeFour months after setting out, the quest has resolved into the Battle of Trayalon, fought across two planes. Peter honors the party and grants each Champion's armor — magical gold armor +5 inlaid with Gallund symbols — and welcomes Finn home as a full member of the council.
Consequences:
• Rhett brings word that the Grimtold meeting was a trap and the elders were killed — Grey Bear, Hilltop, Star, Blackwood and Raven Wing have no elders left. Jael is blamed by some and Pavik Shim by others; none suspect Grimtold, who used something to take all of their knowledge. Rhett will claim the Grey Bear throne if the party does not help.
• Maddie is found to have taken her revenge on Thomas Cassius: a permanent antimagic void around him, eyes that glow and see magical forces he can never touch again, and the removal of one hand (his writing and casting hand), one eye, one ear and one foot. Her two warring selves compromised — his life not taken, but half of it.
• Trankle has become entwined with the prisoner's plane, senses prisoners within 10 feet, and now registers as an outsider native to it. Falleost can see that Rysen is alive but cannot yet reach him.
• Two noble women carrying Finn's children — Benice Resta and Jocelyn Vom — confront him through Peter.
• The Prisoner's Plague breaks out in the river kingdoms, carried through while the prison plane stood open: Fort DC 15 or 1 Int/Wis damage per day, spread by proximity and magical interaction, visible along the ley lines to detect magic. Those of Hesh descent save at -2; dwarves seem unaffected and may have known. At 0 Int/Wis the victim fades from existence entirely. It is the Partanus' early attempt at the reincarnation effect the elders later mastered. Peter and the council are all sick.
At Fairbreeze the party meets Vivian, aged 14, the last of the Fairbreeze line, and the Hench brothers. Fairbreeze holds information about the plague recovered from the Ravenwing library before it burned, and partial access to Craynoth's library. Vivian names the world wardens — believed the first to travel between planes, and what helped raise the Hesh empire — as the source of the doomguard's knowledge.
Peter reorganises the kingdom into guilds: Warriors (Peter), Banking (Solomon), Merchant (Edith Faerwald), Jade Monastery (Duncan), Religion (Landuson), with Blazing Hood (Udin) and Cassius non-voting.
