Detailed NarrativeOnce the Deepwood portal goes dark, Pavik Shim's forces advance faster, breaking apart as they move. A survival-roll chase determines how far the battle has spread by the time the party arrives — from catching Pavik and his elites alone, through the battle reaching the monastery and then the keep, to Trayalon engulfed or destroyed.
Peter convenes the council: 'The blazing hood dwarves are here and are guarding your temple, Duncan... I need you to kill a god. There is a silver lining in this, if we should succeed in closing the portal then he will not be a god and will be more easily defeated.' He assigns Duncan, Solomon, Freespirit and Danger Dave to the killing, and takes for himself the work of identifying escaped prisoners alongside Udin and the dwarves.
Craynoth greets them: 'Ah, I foretold that you would be here... though I thought there would be more of you.' He offers Solomon a place in his godhood, and grows irritated when refused: 'why can't you realize you could all be better off if you joined me... I can have a place for each of you within my org chart.'
Elsewhere: Freespirit and Shade Spirit reach the Library of Craynoth. Jael hunts elders, confronts Macklot, and is killed by him. Grimtold absorbs the elders' power. Peter fights with an oversized sword that looks faintly evil, and a sense motive DC 35 suggests the holes opening in the city's barrier are intentional. Maddie leaves through the portal — 'I have a personal matter to take care of, good luck in saving the world.'
