Chapter Number4
TitleThe Law says what
Primary Location141-millworks
Detailed NarrativeJack secures a writ over a day. In Millworks the party works the Devils Angel, the Lawful Bargain, Brimstone (where Solomon has contacts), the Angelic, Roan's Inn, the Millworks itself, the Paper Mill where spellbooks are made from Deepwood timber, the Town Hall, and the Horns and Halos barbershop. Artemon spots Olek entering the library and confronts him, shouting that he is a slaver. Olek calmly produces documentation permitting slave trading within Ravenwing, plus a research permit β€” and points out Artemon has filed no paperwork at all. Artemon is left frustrated and grudgingly impressed. Olek keeps the library's books. Harfur reads up on Deepwood's mushrooms and a wand-crafting witch named Haylak. Trankle and Harfur run into Udin studying prophecy; he refuses to discuss it, fearing interference. Lillian, a younger elder, explains the doomguard roaming Arla β€” at least one is hunting elders to stop them carrying knowledge that should have been forgotten in Terek's Folly.
Events
SummaryRavenwing is a land of laws. Crossing the border needs a writ, which the party obtains legitimately. Artemon finally corners Olek β€” who produces paperwork legalising his slave trade and bars Artemon from the library on a technicality. The party learns of the doomguard hunting Arla's elders.
